You don't unlock runes from the trader? - Guild Wars Forums

This is upsetting... I bought two superiors from the trader, and they didn't unlock them for my PvP chars. =/ That can make it kinda costly to experiment with different builds, can't it?

AGH! >.< Wouldn't it be better if buying from the trader unlocked the rune?

Yeah, skills cross the pve-pvp border, but runes have to be unlocked with faction points at the Priest of Balthazar.

Actually, you can also unlock them by expert salvaging equipment in pve as well.

actually, not salvaging, but identifying them. thats why many people buy unidentified runes.

in the update when they added the rune traders, they said it would not unlock the rune if you bought it.

no they didn't. when the rune trader was first added they said you could only buy runes you had unlocked. now thats changed with the "i can only sell what other players have sold to me" deal.

You are right in that regard, however, buying a rune still doesn't, and nor should it, unlock the item for pvp. That's what faction is for. Faction unlocks items for pvp, but doesn't give you the item for pve

I thougnt I would mention this is I screwed up the first time.
The runes you unlock from the priest are for PVP only . These are the ones you get from Balthazar points. You can also buy upgrades for weapons and even skills . ALL for pvp only.
You can even buy Elite skills for your PVP character. Not all the priests sell all the same skills . That is where I messed up . Didn't see the other priest so didn't see the elite skills and spent all my points from this weekend . VERY upset at myself .
